These photos were shot in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. Chaco Canyon was an ancient spiritual gathering site for tribes in the Southwestern US. I was struck by how integrated these ancient people were with the earth, to the point their very shelter was made of bricks and stones from the ground beneath their feet.
I have been there many moons ago. Thanks for the memories. I have read this site is at risk of mining, so I hope it remains protected. Native sites are really America’s best time capsules in the land of the disposable.

I had not heard of the threat to Chaco- so sad! We need to honor these spiritual places and respect the Native Americans whos land this really is.

I haven’t been there, but I’d love to go. I enjoy visiting pueblos and cliff dwellings.

Chaco is so worth visiting but is rather off the beaten path- part of the adventure with the poorly marked back roads in New Mexico.
